TRADITIONAL ARTS CENTRE (SINGAPORE)
______

The Traditional Arts Centre (Singapore) was established in September 2012 as a non-profit organisation by Ms Cai Bi Xia , recipient of Young Artist Award (2008). It is recipient of the National Arts Council Seeds Grant (2014-2016). TAC is a resouce and training centre for Chinese opera. Its mission is to promote Chinese opera locally and internationally with the focus on young people as well as to raise its artistic standards of Chinese opera performance in Singapore.
The objectives of the Centre include the revitalisation of tradition culture, the promotion of traditional arts, development and promulgation of Chinese opera in Singapore. Since the establishment of the Centre, it has actively conducted training courses and organised performances, as well as talks and workshops at more than one hundred secondary and primary schools. Schools that offered training courses in Chinese opera include Xinmin Secondary School, Hai Sing Catholic School, CHIJ Secondary School, Jurong Secondary School, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School, West Grove Primary School. It is hoped that these programs will help to nurture a new generation of Chinese opera supporters.
The Centre has also reached out to Chinese opera lovers at the grassroots level, offering courses and organising performances at community clubs. Its efforts will bring the finer things in life to masses, promote the art of Chinese opera for the community, further strengthen social cohesion and help build a gracious society.
